A single global enterprise security platform. StackPath has just confirmed the acquisition of Highwinds, a leading provider of Content Delivery Network, CDN for short.
Financial details of the transactions have not been disclosed yet.
But the plan is now to integrate the Highwinds services with existing StackPath offerings and operations in order to create a single global platform that offers some of the best security features and performance available in the industry.
Resulting in one of the world’s largest global network backbones.
In the words of Lance Crosby, founder, chairman and CEO of StackPath:
“We founded StackPath to make the internet safe. Merging Highwinds with StackPath not only serves that mission, it accelerates our progress towards it. Our two companies had the same view that CDN security and innovation hasn’t evolved as quickly as it needs to. Developers leverage CDNs for practically everything they’re building in the cloud these days — and for far more than simple content delivery.
But CDNs still tend to be add-on services, not built-in. Merging Highwinds and StackPath technologies and teams gives us the scale, scope, and experience to more quickly bring the market an integrated, next-generation platform with unprecedented security advantages.”
The CDN market is set for rapid growth — from $6 billion in 2016 to $23.2 billion by 2021, according to Markets and Markets. This translates to a highly impressive Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) to the tune of 30.9%.
And Highwinds has been a major player in the industry, one of the top CDN providers in the world.
StackPath, meanwhile, is a provider of inherently secure cloud services that enable developers to build safe solutions. You can find out more about the company here.
